About Rouen Ducks
The Rouen duck name originated from the town Rouen, France. They arrived in the United States in 1850. The Rouen was admitted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1874.
Rouen ducks are slow growers and have the basic coloration of the Mallards. This has made them extremely popular as show birds in the heavy class. Due to being a larger bird you will not have to clip its wings because they do not fly more than 100 feet. This makes them a very desirable duck for a pet, a show bird, or your ranch pond.
The Rouen duck is a French breed that is used both for eggs and meat. They were originally kept as farm ducks which makes them a good backyard duck for insect control. The Rouen duck is calm and quiet. They will quickly become your friends because they are very sociable and entertaining as pets.
