The Black Australorp is originally from Australia and became internationally popular in the 1920s for their strong egg laying.
There are very few chicken breeds that are capable of laying as many eggs as Black Australorp chickens. After first being developed in Australia in 1919 as the Australian answer to England’s Orpington breed, the breed went on to set a world record in the 1920s when a group of Black Australorp hens laid more than 1,800 brown chicken eggs in 35 weeks. The Black Australorp breed then went on to smash that same world record when a single Black Australorp hen laid 364 eggs in 365 days. Its egg-laying abilities have made the Black Australorp one of the most desirable chickens in the world. Chickens for Backyards has Black Australorp chicks for sale so that you can enjoy the benefits in your backyard.
Despite being a very productive breed, Black Australorp chickens are very gentle and passive nature. Because of this, Black Australorp chicks are ideal for families with small children who wish to take part in their care. Additionally, their quiet temperaments make them a welcomed addition to any flock, as they tend to get along with most other chicken breeds due to their docile nature. Aside from this, Black Australorp chicks will also grow to be very beautiful chickens, with all black feathers and a gorgeous iridescent sheen reflecting green, purple and pink hues in the sunlight.
When you add a Black Australorp chicken to your farm or backyard flock, you can expect it to lay approximately 200 to 280 brown eggs per year. Black Australorp chickens will also adapt well to almost any space, whether it be a small coop or a large yard, ensuring that you will not have to worry about making special accommodations. Black Australorp roosters can reach a healthy weight of 8.5 pounds. The hens usually average around 6 pounds; demonstrate great broodiness which makes them ideal for breeding purposes.
